LITCHI grown in Hainan Province has started selling at Shenzhen’s farm produce markets, while local Nanshan litchi is expected on the market in mid-June.

     Hainan litchis are of two varieties, including feizixiao and baitangying, retailing for 15 yuan (US$2.31) for feizixiao and 19 yuan for baitangying per 500 grams, much the same as last year, Nanshan Farm Produce Wholesale Market sources said.

     The first Hainan litchis, which were mainly planted in Lingshui Orchard in Sanya, arrived in Shenzhen about mid-May. There are 8,000 feizixiao trees in Lingshui and 2,000 baitangying trees, said Li Ke, vice president of Xili Orchard.

     Another orchard at Hongmin Farm in Qiongshan has about 10,000 feizixiao trees and litchis grown there will arrive in Shenzhen in June.

     Production of the two orchards was about 300,000 kilograms last year.
