2007-06-13

Leaders of Longgang District have research in the Longgang Cultural Center and Sports Center for good preparation.

Shenzhen will become a regional sports center by investing 16 billion yuan (US$2.05 billion) in its sports industry by 2010, which accounts for 1.8 percent of its GDP, according to a blueprint released Saturday.

By 2020, the added value of the city's sports industry will reach 50 billion yuan, accounting for 2.5 percent of its GDP.

The city will be a regional center integrating research, manufacturing and marketing of high-end sports products and services, according to a ceremony Saturday, which named the city as the nation's first pilot in developing the sports industry by the Administration of Sports of China.

The city has formed a solid foundation for its sports industry over the past 20 years.

The sports industry mainly includes sports products, body-building businesses and sports lotteries.

The city will speed up the development of sports services and products in future years. In services, the city will expand golf, water sports, health clubs and model-ship-building businesses.

The Universiade Sports Center in Longgang District will be developed into a sports products research center.
