DAMEISHA beach in eastern Shenzhen would limit the number of visitors to a maximum of 40,000 a day during the May Day holidays, a Yantian District Government press conference was told yesterday.

The maximum number allowed was less than 50,000 during last year’s May Day holidays because a temporary venue for the Universiade beach volleyball was under construction in the park.

The park will open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next day during the holidays.

The district government will continue to recommend visitors avoid peak times.

The information will be conveyed by various media including text messages, LED screens on expressways, TV and radio.

Inquiries can be directed to 2506-1070.

This will be the fourth time the district has imposed traffic controls in the hope of alleviating security and environmental problems, and traffic congestion caused by holiday crowds.

Dameisha beach, which is free, is often overcrowded during holidays.

Facilities designed to accommodate 12,000 to 30,000 visitors a day have become overwhelmed since the opening of the Yanba Expressway and increased traffic routes in Yantian improved access to the park.
