Shenzhen Universiade Torch Relay Launching Ceremony and the First Stop Relay Activity kicked off on the plaza in front of the PKU Centennial Memorial Hall at 10:00 on the morning of May 4. 54 torch bearers participate in the torch relay, which is about 3.1 km long.

The torch relay will kick off from the PKU Centennial Memorial Hall, passing such landmark buildings as Peking University Library and the Memorial of Revitalization of the Chinese Nation on the route. Among the 54 torch bearers there are 29 enrolled university students and 7 representatives of teaching staff, both of who account for over two thirds. Moreover, there are also representatives from the culture and sports circles, such as Deng Yaping and Yang Wei, and representatives from the entertainment media circle, such as Cheng Long and Bai Yansong.

The first torch bearer at the Peking University Stop will be Xing Yan’an, a student of Peking University, who was ever reputed as “The Third National 110-meter Hurdler of China”, while Hu Kai, known as “Flying Spectacles Ace”, who is studying as doctor degree candidate in Tsinghua University, is the last torch bearer.
