Jacques Rogge inaugurates the Nansha Olympic Square

Guangzhou, November 13 - Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), inaugurated the Nansha Olympic Square in Nansha on November 13. "I'm excited to see the foundation of the Nansha Olympic Square, which will be the new landmark to promote the spirit of Olympic Games just as its name tells us." Rogge said.

Rogge came to Nansha District of Guangzhou City to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Nansha Olympic Square with Liu Peng, Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee. Zhang Guangning, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC and Secretary of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Xu Ruisheng, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality, presented the ceremony too and made speeches. They lit the cauldron with other ten distinguished guests including Timothy Fok.

The Nansha Olympic Square covers 2,000 square metres, invested by the Henry Fok Foundation since August of 2010. It faces the sea and boasts superior natural environment. Its construction will promote the development of the entertainment and sport of Nansha.

After the ceremony, Rogge and Liu Peng planted 28 trees to commemorate the construction of the Nansha Olympic Square with other people.
