——the launching ceremony of the Universiade picture story solicitation

To celebrate the one – year countdown of the Universiade, a launching ceremony of the earth art & the Universiade picture story solicitation was held, Sports Center of Long Gang District, August 5. It was hosted by the Universiade Executive Office, and undertaken by Long Gang District CPC Committee and District Government. Together with more than 2,000 citizens from various living communities and various working circles, Member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal CPC Committee and Managing Vice Mayor Lu Ruifeng，Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Director-general of the Universiade Executive Office Liang Daoxing, Longgang District Commissioner Zhang Bei，Member of the Standing Committee of Longgang District CPC Committee and Deputy District Commissioner Zhong Xinming attended the ceremony and took part in the various activities.

At the ceremony, Lu Ruifeng, Liang Daoxing and Zhang Bei pressed the button on a crystal ball to declare open of the launching ceremony of the earth art & the Universiade picture story solicitation, starting the series of activities at the one – year countdown celebration in Longgang District. Around the one – year countdown celebrating party on August 12, Longgang will host several theme activities including a literature evening party, as a sub celebrating area.

Dance and sand painting

The activities included a singing and dancing performance, sand paintings, a launching ceremony, the earth art performance, and one – thousand - person blessing fingerprints. The activities began with a joyous dance performance. After that, came the sand paintings by a famous sand painter Yin Long. With a unique manner, using only sand, he painted for the viewers present some typical images of both Shenzhen city and the Universiade like Happy U, a seashore city, the Universiade main venues, Hakka round houses, and Longcheng Square. In his performance as fast as the “Shenzhen speed”, the remarkable accomplishment that Shenzhen has achieved over the 30 years since the reform and opening up drive, and the wonderful achievements in preparations since Shenzhen’s successful bid for hosting the Universiade can be seen.

The earth art performed by 1,200 volunteers

In the earth art at about 10 am that day, 1,200 young volunteers, standing in a 52 times 39 meters square with spell boards in their hands, demonstrated some well – known images, such as the Universiade logo “Happy U”, the Universiade mascot “UU”, a banner “Longgang in a run up to the Universiade”, and the Universiade slogan “Start Here”. Especially, when the image of UU emerged cheerfully, spectators seemed stimulated and overjoyed, making the activity a happy and joyous occasion. At the earth art performance, the excellent designs which volunteers made with their bodies and hands displayed a beautiful Shenzhen city and a charming Universiade to the people across the world, which shows the warm expectation and sincere wishes of Longgang District people for the 2011 Universiade, as well as their support, their endeavor, and their devotion for the forthcoming Universiade.

Reportedly, nearly 450 million netizens were watching the live video broadcasting of the activity via Tencent QQ LIVE.

 

One – thousand - person blessing fingerprints

Some of the Shenzhen Government leaders and Longgang District leaders and common citizens, about one thousand persons left their fingerprints, showing their support and best wishes to the upcoming Universiade, a successful conclusion of the launching ceremony of the earth art & the Universiade picture story solicitation at the one – year countdown of the Universiade in Longgang District.
