Eco-awareness trips open to all
DATE: 2009-09-16

THE city’s environmental authorities are inviting expatriates and local citizens to sign up for an eco-friendly awareness campaign organized by the city’s environmental authorities that kicks off Sunday.

Seven separate tours will be offered for participants to experience the city’s efforts in building the most liveable environment, the city’s habitat environmental commission said at a news conference yesterday.

The one-day campaign was inspired by International Ozone Day, which is today.

The seven tours include trips to a flood drainage river at Shenzhen Reservoir, a meteorological tower to catch a glimpse of the weather’s effects on the eco-environment, Dashahe Park for a view of reusable resources, the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center and Shennan Middle School.

Residents can apply for any of the seven trips by calling 8351-9165.

With the theme of “Care about the Globe, Care about the Homeland,” the campaign includes a series of activities on how to achieve harmony among economy, eco-environment and people’s living environment, the habitat environmental commission said.

The authority expects about 1 million residents to be involved in activities that will be developed in 200 communities in seven districts, according to the commission.

Shenzhen was given a model award for its performance in protecting the ozone at an international ozone protection conference in Changchun in 2005.
