Shenzhen most livable in China
DATA: 2007-09-13

SHENZHEN has been selected as the most livable city in China in a report released at the 2007 China City Forum (Beijing Summit) which was held in Beijing on Tuesday.

The city ranked third in competitiveness, following Beijing and Shanghai, according to rankings released by the Beijing International Institute for Urban Development.

The institute compared and analyzed the quality of life in 287 cities in China. The appraisal equally weighed subjective and objective factors such as facilities, government services, clothing, food, accommodation and travel.

The objective information was gathered mainly from government statistics. The subjective information originated from a public survey on the Internet.

In the livable city category, Shenzhen is followed by Guangzhou.

Lian Yuming, president of the Beijing International Institute for Urban Development, said livability was the most important factor in measuring a city’s competitiveness. Shenzhen’s services, capability and quality of life have greatly improved after many years of development and reforms to the administrative system. (Han Ximin)
