Local windsurfers snatch two golds

FANG ZHENNAN and Chen Lina, students at Shenzhen University, won the gold medals for China in the RS:X men’s and women’s sailboard competitions which concluded at Seven-star Bay on August,21th.

Fang secured his position with an overall score of 19 in 10 rounds which started Aug. 16, while Chen won the medal with an overall score of 18 in the women’s event.

The two windsurfers were both in leading positions in the previous nine. In the final round, Chen was in second place, but her overall scores took her to the championship.

“I’m full of self-confidence and encouraged myself in the race. I thought I could win the medal because I was first in the first five rounds and my form was very good,” Fang said.

Fang won the title at the 2008 Asian Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia.

Chen, gold medalist at the Asian Sailing Competition in 2008, regarded it as her greatest victory. She started sailing at age 11 and will retire after the Universiade.
