SHENZHEN, China, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- China made it a magnificent seven on the final day of table tennis at the World University Games on Saturday, taking gold in the men's and women's singles.
China started the day with five gold medals to its name, with number six guaranteed in an all-China women's singles final and a seventh looking likely in the men's singles.
Rao Jingwen defeated teammate Fan Ying 7-11 11-6 11-6 11-8 11-6 in a tight encounter to claim the women's singles gold. Fan took the silver and teammates Ma Yuefei and Xiong Xinyun the bronze medals.
In the men's singles final, Xu Xin, the favorite and highest-ranked player in the tournament, ended Yan An's gold medal hopes with a comfortable 14-12 11-8 11-7 11-6 victory to win the seventh and final table tennis gold medal of the 26th Universiade.
Yan had to settle for silver and Kenji Matsudaire of Japan and Fang Bo of China took bronze.
