THE construction of Kingkey 100, Shenzhen’s tallest building in Caiwuwei, western Luohu District, would be completed in August, developer Kingkey Group announced Saturday at a ceremony to mark the completion of its main construction.
Soaring 441.8 meters, Kingkey 100 has 100 floors, surpassing the neighboring Diwang Building (383.95 meters), the previous city record-holder. Designed by TFP Farrells of London, Kingkey 100 is the world’s eighth-highest building.
“There are many extremely tall buildings in the world but Kingkey 100 is the most handsome one,” said Terry Farrel, a British architect and TFP partner, in an earlier interview.
With a floor area of 220,000 sqm, Kingkey 100 has the city’s highest hotel, St. Regis, from the 75th to 100th floor, the highest crowning sky garden and restaurants on the top three floors.
The tower is linked to a retail podium — KK Mall, which opened in November with luxury brand stores, restaurants and Shenzhen’s first IMAX cinema.
“Kingkey 100 is not only a key city landmark, but also helps the prosperity of the Caiwuwei finance area,” said Chen Hua, chairman of Kingkey Group.
Kingkey 100 is part of a 5 billion yuan (US$769 million) property development, which includes residential buildings for relocated villagers. Taking three years to build, the development signals the municipal government’s efforts in urbanization.
Caiwuwei was a village in Luohu District. The city has been transforming the area into a finance center since 2003.
