SHENZHEN Disabled People’s Federation (SDPF) said increased care services and government subsidies will be provided to people with disabilities according to their health and living situations, the Daily Sunshine reported.
Shenzhen has 150,000 registered people with disabilities, including 3,000 who suffer from severe handicaps.
Zu Yuqin, SDPF’s chief executive, said care services can occur in someone’s home or in SDPF’s nursing center, where people can receive daytime or round-the-clock care.
The SDPF center will be responsible for evaluating and identifying disabilities, and issuing disability service cards. People with disabilities could be placed in a rehabilitation home after a health evaluation. A hotline will be set up for questions about policies and services.
Also under way is a project to upgrade the Min’ai Disabled People’s Center, which was set up in 2000 in Guanlan Subdistrict, Longhua New Zone. The center is not able to meet the heavy demand for services and will be built into a comprehensive care center, with expanded facilities and programs by 2015.
The proposal for increased services has been submitted to city civil affairs and financial departments. It is expected to become a key measure to benefit people with disabilities in Shenzhen.(Zhao Jie)
