Traffic improves
2011.08.17

COMPARED with Aug. 1, traffic flows on 15 major city roads fell by 10 percent on August,15th, the first working day after the Universiade holidays.

This was attributed to drivers answering the government’s call to leave their vehicles at home and take public transport as well as restrictions on yellow-label vehicles and trucks.

Shorter intervals between Metro trains also contributed to significant ease of traffic at Meilin, Buji and Nantou checkpoints.

Shenzhen Transport Commission figures for the past week showed public transport carried an average of 9.05 million people a day, including 1.96 million on Metro trains.

Metro trains and bus services were extended to 1 a.m. Saturday after the opening ceremony of the Universiade and the commission had added more buses for sports venues.

Shenzhen police advised spectators to take public transport to the Shenzhen Sports Center and Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, where diving, football and table tennis were being contested. Fines would be imposed for illegal parking.
