GWANGJU - Local college students in Gwangju have rolled up their sleeves to host a successful Universiade in 2015.
On October 19th, the 2015 Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) signed a memorandum of understanding with college student representatives to build a college student network and start volunteer work, being promised an active role in the preparation of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade.
The MOU signing ceremony is the first step toward building a student network. Not only does the student network help create an atmosphere that promotes the 2015 Summer Universiade, but it also helps participate in the sporting event in 2015. The college student representatives plan to expand the network to colleges overseas in 2013.
The number of participating colleges is 16: Chodang University, Chonnam National University, Chosun College of Science and Technology, Chosun University, Daebul University, Dong-gang University, Dongshin University, Gwangju Health College, Gwangju University, Gwangju Women’s College, Honam University, Seoyoung University, Songwon University, Suncheon National University, Mokpo National University, and Nambu University.
The representatives have agreed to encourage students with proficient language skills to join the volunteer pool and promote the event through college festivals, national tours, social networking, news media, and international conferences.
Yoon-suk Kim, the Secretary General of GUOC, passed along a request “to be reliable supporters for the Universiade by taking the initiative to build an international network as well as a national network, since the event is a festival for college students around the world.”
