On the morning of July 14th, “Nation-wide TV networks watch the Universiade”, “Nation-wide metropolitan newspapers Shenzhen Universiade Tour” and the “Nation-wide online media Shenzhen Universiade Folk Arts Collection Team” Press Conference was held at Wu Zhou hotel. Provincial party member, city party secretary Wang Rong attended the conference and gave a brief of the most current progress and main highlights of Universiade preparations. He also communicated with reporters about the proposals of “green commuting” and “thrifty Universiade”.

The 2011 Universiade consists of 24 big events and 306 small events, both record breaking numbers in history. Currently, 125 delegations, 9006 athletes and staff have registered, and the number of virtual torch relay participants has exceeded 5 million. Construction of all venues has been completed, venue managing teams, equipment, facilities and work procedures are now ready for operation, trial competitions have been arranged for 24 events, and rehearsals for the opening and closing ceremony are being held on a tight schedule. Recruitment and training of volunteers have been completed, and 20% of citizens are participating in volunteer activities, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere for the coming Universiade.

“During the four years of Universiade preparation, we were full of passion, pursuing a unique wonder, striving to bring greater changes to this city and more benefits for our citizens.
