Shenzhen police will impose strict security measures by restricting vehicles from entering the Dameisha area when the beach volleyball matches of the Universiade are held, police said Thursday.

Only buses, taxis with passengers who have match tickets, and other vehicles either with a permit for the Universiade or with a certificate issued by the authorities to prove that they belong to individuals or enterprises in the area may enter the Dameisha area.

Inspection stations will be set up at the Dameisha exits of Yanba Expressway and Yankui Road.

Also, vehicles are not allowed to park along roads in the Dameisha area during the Games to ensure smooth traffic.

In addition, Police are considering enlarging the areas in the city that allow vehicles with odd- and even-numbered license plates on alternate days during the Universiade. It is expected to relieve the traffic pressure. Details of the plan are still unknown.

Police previously announced that the rule would apply in Bao’an and Longgang CBDs and on Shuiguan, Qingping and Yanba expressways, Bao’an Boulevard and Pingxi Road.

Separately, police announced that the Meilin-Qinghu section of Meiguan Expressway will start a facelift from Friday.

Only half of the section will remain open at a time to two-way, four-lane traffic while the other half are being renovated from May 20 to Aug. 9. During the period, all trucks, tractors and special engineering vehicles will be banned from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Motorists are reminded of various detours and advised to follow road signs closely.
