SHENZHEN, 22 Aug. - Russia charged to a comfortable 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-14) victory against Ukraine to win their second consecutive Universiade gold in men's volleyball on Monday night at Shenzhen Gymnasium.
"We feel very excited and a lot of happiness," said head coach Yury PANCHENKO (RUS).
Both teams displayed power in their attacks and performed similarly in blocks, with Russia recording 12 points off blocks to Ukraine's 10.
"I think our team played better and stronger than the Ukraine team. I think our team did a good job with our service and receiving," added PANCHENKO.
Russia secured their side of the net better with seamless floor coverage, and setter Sergei BAGREI (RUS) led his team by generating excellent digs.
The Russian side was also solid on serve, recording six aces.
Ukraine's performance surged in the third set, but their ball-handling errors proved costly.
BAGREI (RUS), who was part of the gold medal-winning team at Belgrade 2009, was masterful in his execution of the Russian offence, enabling Evgeny SIVOZHELEZ (RUS) and Vasily NOSENKO (RUS) to combine for 31 points.
Russia now has four medals in Universiade men's volleyball. They finished with the bronze medal in previous Universiades in Sicily (1997) and Beijing (2001).
