All nine football courts were occupied for the needs of the 25th Universiade. The second round of matches included players from both categories. Students played in Karaburma (Belgrade), Jakovo, Indjija, Smederevo, Lazarevac and many other venues.

The first surprise of the competition was the Japanese national team which simply ‘filled the net’, playing against Brazilian national team. Football players from the ‘land of the rising Sun’, won the match 4:1. The title ‘hero of the day’(man of the hour), or, at least, during the football match, belongs to Nagai Kensuke, the man who singlehandedly scored three times against ‘cariocas’, after spending most of the match on the bench.

To score three goals playing against the Brazilian national team…. I am extremely happy, but also pleased to see that Japan is on the right track. We will not stop here. I want us to be the best. I want us to be the champions – said Kensuke and added that he was not surprised to see the great welcome Belgrade citizens offered, because he had already heard a lot of compliments about Serbian hospitality.

With this win, Japan added sixth points to its ranking, therefore ensuring its placement in the second round.

Canada’s victory vs. Morocco could also be considered a surprise. The football players of the ‘maple leaf country’ won with the score of 1:0, winning their first match at the tournament.

Marocco has a good team, with fast and skillful players. We had psychological advantage, which ultimately helped us win the match. I believe we will continue with victories during the tournament – said Mosher Michael, Coach of the Canadian national team.

Football players of Ghana national team have not played yet, therefore, by official scoring rules, points go to the national teams of Serbia and Mexico. As a result, group A will only have three teams during the rest of the competition.

National teams of Uruguay and South Korea played the last match of the second day of competition, which took place in the morning. There were no winners. The match finished with an even score of 1:1.
